Studies have shown that the first place people look for information is online. When someone is looking for a place to eat or a great auto mechanic, they first go to google and search for one near them. Upon finding one, they click on the website and begin to browse around for what they are looking for. However there is one key piece to them staying on your site, and thats an effective and welcoming layout. This includes a number of different aspects of a site such as colors, information and accessability to it, and overall ease of getting to what you are looking for.

Many sites these days want to focus on the flashy animations and sounds to attract clients and apease them to stay. This strategy isnt a very effective one. For most people, they go to a website and the first thing they want to do is click on something. They want to click to get more information or to arive at a page that has the details that they are looking for. They want to get to it with a very limited number of clicks and if you dont abide by the user then they will just leave you site and go somewhere else.
